Minerva Biotechnologies has been awarded a grant by the NIAID division of the National Institutes of Health.
The study that is funded involves testing in animals, Minerva’s growth factor that in vitro stimulate the growth of human bone marrow cells that are needed to make blood cells. If successful these growth factors could become drugs capable of reconstituting a person’s bone marrow after major assault by radiological or nuclear attack, by therapeutic radiation for cancer treatment or by disease.
